Broken Spokes wheeling off to another riding season

Bancroft’s Broken Spokes Bicycle Club went rolling into its third decade with a large turnout at its registration night. Riders of all ages showed up at Heart of the Park to enroll for another season in the saddle. And this week saw the start of activities, with the first “shake-down” ride to see where everyone fits in the wheel-house.

Festival seeks to encourage young musicians

The North Hastings Music Festival is a well-established spring tradition; it has been an annual event in Bancroft since 1958. When Ontario’s Minister of Rural Affairs Jeff Leal came to Bancroft last week, he had two items on his agenda. One was to announce (or in several cases, re-announce) a set of grants for new municipal infrastructure. But once the handshakes were exchanged and the press photos taken, Leal and his aides adjourned to a private session, not only with local mayors but with representatives of area youth.
