St. Martin of Tours Catholic School students have a new place to play.
Bancroft’s Social Justice Without Borders (SJWB) has raised a third of the money required to bring a Syrian refugee family to Bancroft.
In the early 1980s, Wendy’s hamburger chain ran a famous commercial with the tag line “Where’s the beef?” This is also a question which has been asked of Bancroft’s much self-promoted Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.
This week I travelled to St. Martin of Tours Catholic School to see its new playground. It was cold. Later I would drive home in a blizzard, but what I saw at the opening ceremony would keep me warm.
Bancroft council finally heard from the managers of their water and wastewater systems at last week’s council. The representatives, Andy Trader and Ashley Pilgrim, gave a thorough run-down of all the services which the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) provides to Bancroft, from maintenance and repair to environmental review. And the quality of their work was saluted by several members of council.
The Township of Wollaston has announced the hiring of a part time community development co-ordinator for the municipality in a serious effort to pull together plans and resources to drive community projects, and engage citizens and businesses to support business and tourism opportunities in the municipality.
A new initiative in Bancroft could save lives. The Alzheimer Society of Hasting-Prince Edward (ALSHPE) has successfully integrated Project Lifesaver into the Hastings community with the help of the Bancroft OPP and the Bancroft Area Community Policing Advisory Committee (BACPAC).
