On Monday, Jan. 8 Hastings County announced that a temporary warming centre was going to be open to those in need of shelter in Bancroft until the permanent warming centre unit arrives on Jan. 23.
The temporary shelter opened on Tuesday, Jan. 9, and is located at the Bancroft Bible Chapel Lobby, 106 Hastings Street North, in Bancroft. According to the press release from the county, the warming centre will be open nightly from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. until the permanent warming centre is set up and ready for use. It was also acknowledged by the county that security staff will be on-site and provide support to anyone seeking shelter.
The mobile unit slated for use as a warming centre is scheduled to be shipped north to Bancroft on Jan. 23. In the meantime efforts are being made to make it operational as soon as possible upon its arrival in Bancroft.
Both Hastings County and the Town of Bancroft also stated that they would like to recognize and thank the Bancroft Bible Chapel for their offer of a temporary space for people to find shelter from the cold weather.
