Bantam Jets take first game of quarterfinals

February 9, 2016

The Bierworth Readi-Mix Bantam Jets were on the road Friday night to start their quarterfinal series against Campbellford. Three and a half minutes into the game, it was 1-1, with Campbellford striking first and Bancroft answering back less than a minute later with an unassisted goal by Brett Cooney. There were lots of scoring chances throughout the rest of the first, but both goalies were on fire, so it remained 1-1 heading into the second.
The Jets came out and scored a powerplay goal less than a minute into the second, scored by Brett Cooney, assisted by Jared McCaskie and Brodie Cooney, but with just under six minutes left in the period, Campbellford tied it back up and the second ended in a 2-2 draw. The Jets took the lead again a minute and six seconds into the third, after Jesse Mountney put one in the net, assisted by McCaskie and Brandon Hudder.
A lead they didn’t hold on to long, as Campbellford followed it up with a powerplay goal less than two-minutes later. Minutes later, the Jets were up again, after Mountney scored another one, assisted by Brodie Cooney and McCaskie, and this time they weren’t giving up the lead. Just under the halfway mark of the third, the Jets added a little insurance with a goal by Riley Krieger, assisted by Easton Morrison and Riley Hunt. Campbellford put on the pressure, but great defensive play by the Jets, not to mention some impressive goaltending by the Jets goalie, Ethan Glecoff, who made an amazing glove save late in the period, kept Campbellford from mounting a comeback, and the Jets won 5-3.
The Bantam Jets will be at home Saturday, Feb. 13 at 6:15 p.m. for game two and then back in Campbellford for game three on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m.
