Café customers give back

Lloyd Embury, Lori Harris and Patty Embury get ready to deliver Christmas gifts for people in difficult circumstances, purchased by customer donations at the Loudmouth Café in Coe Hill. JIM EADIE Special to This Week

By Jim Eadie

Customers and friends of the Loudmouth Café in Coe Hill, encouraged by the owner Lori Harris, have been up to more than having coffee and a bite to eat over the past few weeks. A collection of funds quickly grew, and several volunteers were dispatched to purchase Christmas gifts for local persons who are struggling at this time of year.

“We have purchased gifts for nine families, 12 couples and seven senior citizens,” said volunteer Coe Hill resident Patty Embury, who was assisted by her husband Lloyd. “We have to give credit to Lori, she was the one who got everyone together!”
Persons in need were found through the Tri Township Food Basket program, and the Emburys were just about to begin delivering the gifts.

Currently the Tri Township Food Basket program is facing looming shortages of food now that a major supplier is not able to continue. During the past few years 10,000 lbs of food per year was received through Haliburton from Peterborough programs, with 3,000 lbs of that split between Maynooth and Coe Hill. Somehow that shortfall will have to be made up.
