I want to recognize Dani Lang for five years of exemplary volunteer service before she became paid executive director of the North Hastings Community Cupboard (NHCC) in 2012. Her dedication prevented our closure in 2007.

If you have been following politics recently you may know that there is a debate currently waging over what type of electoral system Canada should use for the next election. As someone who studied electoral reform I thought it may be valuable to give readers a taste of why our current First Past the Post system needs to be changed. Although there are advantages to First Past the Post: strong regional representation, a simple ballot, an efficient counting method; there are many significant disadvantages.
The Community Futures Development Corporation of North and Central Hastings and South Algonquin (CFDC), held its annual general meeting on June 22. The corporation was pleased to highlight a successful year of providing loans, grants, business services and counselling. It also was proud of delivering the Community Futures Program and the Eastern Ontario Development Program.

The new sold-out summer theatre camp for kids has launched, under the direction of creative director Dianne Winmill and the theatre is filled with excited kids learning to sign, dance and act. These future stars have five days to learn their lines, moves and get their pirate pitch right for two special performances on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. as part of the It Takes a Village Summer Camp.
