Everyone loves a wedding and this Thursday and Friday, Playhouse audiences are invited to attend a slightly unusual ceremony for one. Caroline (Christel Bartelse), the bride to be, has decided to just go ahead and marry herself. And then, like other brides, she’s taking a honeymoon, or in her case – a ONEYmoon.comedy continues at the Bancroft Village Playhouse this week with another fabulous Second City alumna killing it on stage with the award wining, one-woman show, ONEYmoon.
Audiences will become family and friends on this very unusual wedding day and follow along on a hilarious beach vacation. Filled with zany wit, improv, dance and song, Caroline pokes holes in our notions of wedded bliss – but ultimately finds that a long-term relationship with herself has its own pitfalls.
ONEYmoon premiered at the London, Ontario Fringe Festival and played Toronto soon after. This touring show has played to sold-out houses and rave reviews everywhere it is booked. The show and its creator, Christel Bartelse, have earned a Critics Choice award nomination and a Canadian Comedy Award nomination for the effort.
Playhouse manager, Heather Brough says she’s looking forward to one more hilarious show at the theatre that is operated by Hospice North Hastings.
“Laughter is exactly what our audiences are looking for this season,” Brough says. “We’re excited to have this popular show grace our stage and we’re ready to have laughter and applause bring this old theatre back to life.”
ONEYmoon plays two nights in Bancroft on Thursday, Aug. 18 and Friday, Aug. 19. The Thursday night audience can also add a dinner on the patio for an additional $15.
“We’re happy to have another actor coming to us after years of comedic training with Second City – you know she’s going to be amazing,” Brough says.
Proceeds from the shows support Hospice North Hastings as part of the Caring through Culture movement that is growing with every Playhouse production. Tickets are on sale now at Harvest Moon, Posies, Brush with the North, Hospice House and the Playhouse Box Office. Tickets are also available online at boxofficebancroft.com. This production is sponsored by Bancroft Foodland.
