Councillors deliver Meals-on-Wheels to area seniorsBy Tony Pearson “In every community, there is work to be done. In every heart, there is the power to do it” So says Marianne Williamson, the American spiritual and social activist, who among other activities has founded a Meals-on-Wheels project in Los Angeles. Certainly that thought is shared by the volunteers of Community Care North Hastings who deliver hot and frozen meals to seniors in the community. This goes beyond providing nutrition; the service also allows volunteers to offer a safety check and some personal contact – a package which helps enable those getting older to remain safe and secure in their own homes. One Ontario meals-on-wheels agency has as its slogan “We deliver more than a meal; we deliver a difference.” In all, CCNH delivers over nine thousand meals a year door-to-door in Bancroft and surrounding areas. Frozen meals are delivered from Paudash to Maynooth, from Coe Hill to Macarthur Mills. Last week, members of area town councils pitched in to show support for the service. Dennis Purcell, Faraday council member, Bernice Jenkins, Bancroft mayor, and Vivian Bloom, mayor of Hastings Highlands, all made delivery runs. |
