Fashion for furry friends

June 9, 2016

Patti holds Lulu, while Barb’s Boure and Monica’s Juby eye each other, while Joan’s Peri checks out what’s left in the kitchen.  All the dogs were delighted with the money raised for Home Again – Lulu in particular.  Last year she was a rescue, and now she has found her forever home.

Home Again is a volunteer organization that rescues abandoned or homeless dogs and cats in the Bancroft area, fosters them until ready to be adopted and also subsidizes the spay/neutering of pets for people in the Greater Bancroft Area of Ontario who might not otherwise be able to afford this surgery for their pets.

However, caring for lost or abandoned animals is expensive. The average dog costs the society hundreds of dollars in food and medical bills before it is “re-homed.”  But the society only charges $350 for an adoption, and only $95 for cats.  Somehow they have to make up the difference.

They took a big step toward this goal on Saturday, when their annual fashion show and reception earned $17,000 to help with animal care. Dogs like Rosy, Bowie, and Charlie, and cats like Heathcliff and Calico, would like to thank all those who contributed – especially fashion sponsors Zihua, Posie’s, Niffer’s, The Old Tin Shed, and West Wind.   Food was generously provided by The Lakehouse, The Granite, The Bancroft Eatery, and The Blue Roof.

Organizer Lesley Ferrier termed it “a heart-warming event,” explaining that while putting the show on takes a lot of work, “When you see the little dogs go down the runway, knowing that the most needy animals in our community will benefit, it makes it all worthwhile.”
