Sometime overnight on Nov. 27, a residence in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands was broken into.
Removed from the residence were five long-gun firearms. The culprits also broke into a garage on the property and removed an ATV and a dirt-bike.
The firearms and dirt-bike were later recovered by police, and investigation by officers with the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police identified two suspects, who were subsequently arrested and charged.
A 19-year-old of Bancroft was arrested on Dec. 5, and held for bail, charged with possession of property obtained by crime; break and enter to steal firearm; driving while disqualified; and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle.
A 16-year-old Hastings Highlands male was also arrested on Dec. 6, and was released on a promise to appear with an officer in charge’s undertaking, charged with possession of property obtained by crime; break and enter to steal firearm; and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle. The male is scheduled to appear in Bancroft Youth Court on Jan. 21.
