Free film celebrates love of hockey

Hockey fans are invited to a free family-friendly screening of Skating to New York, at the Bancroft Village Playhouse this Saturday, Feb. 13.

Skating to New York, is an adventure tale about five boys on a small-town Canadian high school hockey team who live to skate. After losing an important game, they decide to skate across Lake Ontario to New York on the coldest day of the year. This film is about loyalty, friendship, leadership and about never giving up.

“This film is as exciting as any tied-up hockey game,” says playhouse manager Heather Brough. “We think everyone will enjoy the film and we hope to have a packed theatre on Saturday for this event. Wear your hockey jerseys and get ready to cheer for the kids in this film.”

The doors of the Playhouse will open at noon after the street hockey game that is being organized by St. Paul's United Church. Free hotdogs and drinks will be served at the Playhouse and then the film Skating to New York will start at 1 p.m. The event is generously sponsored by The Pillars Apartments in partnership with the Bancroft Village Playhouse and St. Paul's United Church.
