Impaired driver takes car

During the early morning hours on Aug. 15, police received a report of an intoxicated male operating a motor vehicle in the town of Bancroft.
While investigating the complaint, police officers observed the suspect vehicle driving, and attempted to stop it, however the driver failed to pull over as required. After a short pursuit, the vehicle pulled into a driveway of a residence in the Town of Bancroft. There, the driver exited the vehicle, and attempted to enter the residence, however was apprehended by police officers before going inside. The driver was uncooperative with police, and observed, by them, to be intoxicated. After a brief struggle, the driver was arrested, and brought to the Bancroft OPP detachment.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was the property of his girlfriend, who had earlier that morning refused to provide the keys because he had no driver’s licence. After being refused the keys, he threatened and assaulted the woman, and she provided the keys to him.
Charged with driving while impaired; driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood; flight while pursued by police officer; take motor vehicle without consent; robbery; and assault is a 24-year-old Bancroft man. He was held for bail, and subsequently released on a recognizance with conditions. He is to appear in Bancroft court on Aug. 25.
