Movie fans will be in for a musical treat on Jan. 18 and 19 as the North Hastings High School music students offer their new show, Come to the Movies – featuring the Music of John Williams, at the Village Playhouse in Bancroft. With Star Wars as the film to see this winter, NHHS students will be showcasing the beloved anthems from this film as well as some well known pieces from Jaws and Jurassic Park. Musical director Dianne Winmill says the students have been working on the set list for months and that they're ready to take their show to Bancroft's historic theatre. “With the calibre of the music students rising steadily over the years, we have been able to play more difficult music for this concert,” Winmill says. “By practising our performing skills in the fall through our community concerts at schools, seniors' residences and at parades, we have become quite comfortable performing. Much of the music being played includes my personal favourite band arrangements of popular movie music and some of these arrangements I have been dying to play – finally we are getting the chance.” By partnering with the Bancroft Village Playhouse for the production, the students will gain the experience of performing in a real theatre that comes complete with amazing acoustics and a new familiarity of working under stage lights in front of a packed house. “We have had an absolutely spectacular semester of performing in the music program at NHHS,” Winmill says. “Now we invite our community partners and families to come celebrate the joy we love to bring to our community through our music.” The NHHS Music Students' Semester Celebration, Come to the Movies, comes to the stage at the Village Playhouse on Jan. 18 and 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased through NHHS students, at Harvest Moon, Posies, Zihua, Hospice House, at the door and online at boxofficebancroft.com. This is a Village Playhouse Production, doors open at 6 p.m. each evening. --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2016-01-13 12:24:37 Post date GMT: 2016-01-13 17:24:37 Post modified date: 2016-01-13 12:24:37 Post modified date GMT: 2016-01-13 17:24:37 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
