Johnston inspired by Norse saga

On Saturday, April 2, the Friends of the Limerick-Wollaston Library hosted an author's afternoon program at the Coe Hill Legion. We were very excited to welcome George Johnston, a self-published author from Ivanhoe.
His novels are based on the Norse saga of Eric the Red, and the Greenland saga – so a mix of history and fantasy.
Johnston was inspired by Canada Parks National Historic Site at L'Anse aux Meadows, the only authenticated Norse site in North America, to date.
In last Thursday's New York Times, it was reported that there is a second potential Viking site, 600 kilometres south of L'Ànse aux Meadows on the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Renowned Sarah Parcak and her team of archaeologists are now at Pointe Rosee where they have found Viking-like walls and bog iron, both suggestive of a Norse settlement. PBS is about to launch a documentary on this topic.
Johnston and his Canadian novels, Vinland, the Beginning, and Vinland Ragnaroke, Twilight of the Gods about life in a Norse settlement, could not have made a more timely visit.
As Vinland, the Beginning won the Independent Publisher Book Award, Johnston was very qualified to discuss this new and growing concept in the publishing industry.
Unfortunately, the program could have been better attended but those who were present enjoyed an interesting and entertaining presentation by George Johnston.
The volunteer Friends of the Limerick-Wollaston Library purchased a set of George`s novels for your enjoyment.
