Knights of Columbus hold annual roadside clean up initiative

Since 2010, each year the North Hastings Divine Mercy Knights of Columbus have been voluntarily cleaning up the roadside in Bancroft along Hwy 62 North. While the Knights first attempt to host the annual initiative was called off due to bad weather, the club's second effort on Wednesday, May 15 was a great success.
The Knights met outside of the B.C. Cafe at 8:45 a.m. that morning before splitting up and heading out to conduct their clean up. Bancroft This Week spoke with
“It's just another way for us to give back to the community,” Knight's member Peter Penlington told Bancroft This Week that morning. “We like to do it early in the spring before the bugs get too bad. There are usually six to 10 guys that come out help.”
Penlington explained further how the event came to be, mentioning how one of his fellow Knights saw another chapter of their group cleaning up a roadside in Arizona in the U.S.A. During the Bancroft event this year the Knights broke into two teams in order to clean up both sides of the section of Hwy 62 North between Bancroft's town limits and Musclow-Greenview Road.
By the end of the day, the North Hastings Divine Mercy Knights of Columbus had removed 28 bags of trash from the roadside; helping to make Bancroft even more beautiful ahead of the long weekend.
