The popular Fall Hike for Hospice returns to Bancroft on Sunday, October 4 but this year there are some changes to the event that Hospice Coordinator Heather Brough is really excited about.
Brough explains that the Hike for 2015 will feature a route that runs through the South end of Bancroft with a start and finish at the Village Playhouse. After taking over the Playhouse lease in April, the team from Hospice North Hastings has been overseeing operation of the old theatre. The kitchen facilities have been improved and Brough says it’s a great place to host a community event like the Chili Fest that follows the Hike.
Brough asks that all of the hikers drop by the Playhouse around 3pm for registration and then at 3:30pm everyone will set out for a beautiful walk along Hastings Street South before hiking back to the Playhouse for the popular Chili Fest.
“It’s a beautiful walk,” Brough says. “The Playhouse is part of this neighbourhood and we want to be connected to our community.”
Once the Hike is finished, which is when people feel hungry, everyone will be invited back to the Playhouse lobby for the annual Chili Fest where hungry hikers can expect 20 different Chili creations waiting for them.
There’s always tons of food so those who want to just drop by for the meal can arrive at 5pm and pay $10 to join in the celebration.
The Chili Fest also includes some fun moments like the grand prize draw for the Hike. This year, anyone who raises $1,000 for the Hike for Hospice is entered in a draw to win a one-week cottage rental in PEI. Donated by Noel and Katie Lobe, their family cottage is located in a charming seaside community just outside of Charlottetown. The cottage is fully equipped and comfortably sleeps seven.
Pledge forms are available at the Hospice office and online. Everyone is welcome to attend this fun event and help to raise much needed funds for Hospice North Hastings. Hospice North Hastings is 100 per cent community funded the October 4 the Fall Hike for Hospice and Chili Fest will once again be raising funds to support our residential Hospice, Hospice House for North Hastings, the Medical Equipment Loan Cupboard, the Home Visiting Program and our much needed R & R Support Day Program.
