Peewee Boys’ Jets in semi-finals

March 2, 2016

It was a tough start for the Vito’s Pizzeria Peewee Jets who started off their first game of the all Ontario semi-finals in Wasaga Beach Friday, Feb. 26.
Fear of the unknown and a lot of butterflies had a huge impact on the team, leading to a 4-0 shutout for the Wasaga Stars. The highlight of this game was quick thinking by Defense Connor Sobry.
One of the Stars players ended up with a breakaway, even though he was three times Connor’s size he chased him down the ice, stuck out his stick and scooped the puck backwards without coming into contact with the Stars stick or skates. It was such a spectacle that even the Wasaga cheering section was in disbelief and started clapping for Sobry instantly.
On Sunday evening we hit the Wasaga ice again. The Stars opened the scoring in the first five minutes of the game. The pace was fast and we had our chances.
With a minute left on the clock Desi Davies puts in the first Bancroft goal assisted by Keegan Anderson to tie the game 1-1 going into the second.
The Stars retook the lead early in the period Colson Jenkins answered back tying up the game assisted by Desi Davies. A late Stars goal had the team trailing 3-2 going into the third. There was no flood for the entire game, the Boys took two minutes to rest and were thrown back out onto the ice.
The Jets continued to pressure the Stars, and were able to score again with smart maneuvers from Owen Fergusson assisted by Keegan Anderson and Ryker Huygens, tying up the game.
Another goal by the Stars put them ahead 4-3 midway through the period.
After tremendous passing and shooting Bancroft seemed to fall apart, becoming tired and disorganized. Five more goals late in the third period lead to a 9-3 win for Wasaga in the second game of this series.
The Peewee Jets are down two games in this series, we need our Community to come out and support the team on their home ice.
The third game takes place Friday March 4 at 6 p.m., the fourth game is Saturday March 5 at 6 p.m., the fifth game is scheduled for Sunday March 6 at 5 p.m.
