Sun shines on area employees

The sun is shining on public sector employees in Bancroft and surrounding area.

The so-called Sunshine List, which discloses public sector salaries of more than $100,000 a year, was released at the end of March. Hundreds of employees from local school boards, municipalities and health services made the list.

Surrounding area CAOs made the list including for Highlands East, Hastings Highlands, Greater Madawaska Valley and the County of Hastings. The highest earner was the CAO of Hastings at $266,006 while the rest were between $115,000 and $113,000.

The County of Hastings had more than 20 employees on the list, including the CAO. The chief paramedic and director of emergency services came in second at $146,546. The lowest was the superintendent of operations at around $101,000. The director of nursing was included in this list as well as a handful of advanced care paramedics.

Bancroft OPP’s detachment commander made just under $151,000. A constable also made more than $108,000 this year. Bancroft This Week is waiting to hear back from the OPP to see if any other staff from the detachment made the list.

The director of education for the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board made $199,597. She and more than 170 of her colleagues made the list including the principal of North Hastings High School, who made $129,768. The lowest earner was a secondary school teacher at around $100,000. Overall, 25 elementary teachers, 54 secondary teachers, 21 vice-principals and 46 principals were on the list. There were also five superintendents.

More than 80 staff of Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board made the list. The highest at this school board was also the director of education at $204,150 followed by five superintendents who made between close to $160,000 and around $172,000. The lowest earner was a teacher at $101,177. Fourteen teachers and vice-principals and 35 principals were on the list.

When it came to the local health unit, 14 employees made the list. The highest earner was Hastings Prince

Edward Public Health’s former medical officer of health at $244,317. He was followed by Addictions and Mental Health Services – Hastings and Prince Edward CEO at $155,773, then the director of health protection at almost $140,000. The lowest earner to make the list was the chief nursing officer at more than $102,000.

The president and CEO of Quinte Healthcare made more than $330,000. The second highest earner was a registered nurse at almost $216,000. This nurse was included in 20 registered nurses who made the list. Eight pharmacists made between $101,000 and $109,000. Five program directors on the list made between $130,500 and $119,000.
