A fresh face is running for mayor in Hastings Highlands.
Hastings Highlands officially has a candidate running for deputy mayor and two more on the ballot for councillor.

In response to the infrastructure committee’s monthly report, council discussed the town’s strategy for waste diversion heading into the new year. Speaking on behalf of the committee, Deputy Mayor Charles Mullett put forth the recommendation that the bag tag distribution program continue without change in 2018. It was approved by council.
Hastings Highlands staff is looking into the municipality’s agreement with Hospice North Hastings for its LED sign.
Council wants to appoint Frank Hickey to fill its empty Ward 1 seat.

Hastings Highlands council is reviewing doubling its sale costs for shore road allowances.
Last March, Deputy Mayor Paul Jenkins sent a private email to Progressive Waste Solutions, a for-profit waste disposal company, asking what price the town might get if it tried selling its waste site. Jenkins said such a sale might help bring down the deficit and debt which Bancroft continues to run up on its sewer operations.
