Belleville has come in for some sharp criticism from Hastings County council members following its recent decision to refuse the county’s request for additional funding to support Belleville’s Hastings Manor and Hastings Centennial Manor in Bancroft.

Water and wastewater was back on the agenda March 13 for Bancroft council.
Kilpatrick hosted a rally at A Place for the Arts Saturday morning to announce he had submitted his letter of resignation to Bancroft Mayor Paul Jenkins earlier that day.
The Ontario by Bike Network rolled into Bancroft March 6 and conducted a workshop with nearly 50 local small business and service persons to assist them to be more prepared to welcome cycle tourists.
Heads of three municipal councils, along with some councillors and staff, met March 5 in Madoc Township to continue discussing the possibility of hiring a full-time fire chief for their departments. Limerick, Wollaston and Madoc townships are currently in discussion. Also affected would be Tudor and Cashel Township which doesn’t have a fire department but purchases service from Limerick.
Hastings County council is none too pleased the province has some changes for its draft official plan according to council Warden Rodney Cooney.
An independent film company will be shooting a film in Bancroft for 16 days during March, and possibly a few days in April or May. It could feature Bancroftians too.
North Hastings has been abuzz with talk that the OPP is reviewing an amalgamation opportunity between its Bancroft and Madoc detachments, but a spokesperson for the OPP Eastern Regional Headquarters maintains amalgamation is “not on the table.”
“I am honoured and humbled by your support, and the opportunity to become the NDP’s candidate for the riding of Hastings – Lennox and Addington,” Nate Smelle told those gathered at the ONDP nomination . “In the last 20 years in my opinion we have seen little significant change improving the quality of life in Ontario … especially rural Ontario.”
