Friday night, the Bierworth Readi-Mix Bantams were on the road to take on the Ennismore Eagles. Ennismore took an early 2-0 lead in the first six minutes of play. The Jets answered back with a goal by Brett Cooney, assisted by Chris Poste and it was 2-1 Eagles after the first. The Jets turned up the heat in the second and third, but the Ennismore goaltender continued to rob them over and over. The Jets also held off Ennismore throughout the second and third, for a final score was 2-1 Ennismore.
Saturday night, the Jets hosted Campbellford. Campbellford struck first, scoring six-and-a-half minutes in. A minute-and-a-half later, Brett Cooney knocked one in during a power play, assisted by Poste and Riley Hunt.
It was 1-1 heading into the second. The second period was busy for the refs, as both teams kept the penalty boxes warm. Late in the period, Ennismore cashed in on a power play to take a 2-1 lead after two. Four-and-a-half minutes into the third, Campbellford scored again and then added another less than a minute later. With just under six minutes left Jack Kauffeldt banged in a rebound for a power play goal, assisted by Brett Cooney. Thirty-four seconds later, Brett Cooney found the back on the net during a scramble, to make it a one goal game, assisted by Hunt. Campbellford added some insurance with a goal less than two minutes later. With 1:41 left in the game, the Jets were on the power play and they pulled the goalie for a six-on-four advantage, but despite a valiant effort, they just couldn’t put the puck in the net and Campbellford finished it off with an empty netter, to defeat the Jets 6-3.
The Bantams are off to Pembroke this upcoming weekend for the annual Silver Stick tournament. Game times are Friday, Nov. 27 at 5:15 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 28 at 10:10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Good luck, Jets!
