To the Editor,
Bancroft folks (or, at least, folks who drive on Hwy 28 near Bancroft) like:
Tim Hortons: hot drinks, almost exclusively. Beer, water, and soft drinks (roughly in equal quantities). For beer: overwhelmingly Canadian (with a few Stella Artois thrown in — or out). For soft drinks: surprisingly, Pepsi over Coke by a long way, with some Crush and ginger ale to round out the numbers. For water: Real Canadian.
How do I know, and why do I care?
On April 14, I took a large garbage bag and walked along one side of a 200 metre stretch of Hwy 28, not far from town. I picked up all of the garbage that I could reach (which was most of what I could see), and found that almost all of it was recyclable cans and plastic bottles, with a good number of coffee cups — also recyclable. I kept a rough tally in my head, resulting in the list above.
That covers the, “How do I know?”
At the end of my walk I had filled the garbage bag to overflowing. Why do I care? I hope that part is obvious.
