The Whitney Recreation Committee in South Algonquin Township is having computer classes for seniors this fall on Sept. 11, 18, 25, and Oct. 2. Gloria Beauclair with the recreation committee comments on these classes to Bancroft This Week. For more information or to register, contact Beauclair at [email protected].
The computer classes being put on by the Whitney Recreation Committee for seniors will be on Sept. 11, 18, 25 and Oct. 2. Beauclair says the instructor for these classes comes from the Training and Learning Centre of Renfrew County.
The Training and Learning Centre is a non-profit organization funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, and was founded in 1993. They help adults upgrade their skills or learn a new skill for employment, apprenticeships, secondary or post-secondary education, and furthering their independence. For more information, go to www.trainingandlearningcentre.ca.
Beauclair says these computer classes are for seniors aged 55 years or older.
“This is to help seniors who may want to go back into the workforce or who need medical appointments through online means and are not sure how to do it,” she says.
Beauclair told Bancroft This Week on July 10 that the computers for the class are being supplied for use. She also notes that the class is free and is being paid for by a grant procured for this purpose.
“With the high inflation happening right now, it’s been found that many seniors need to go back to work in order to cover all of their bills. This class is designed to help them. Right now, I have four participants and still have room for four more,” she says. “If anyone is interested, please reach out.”
